Westmoreland Specialty Co. ca. 1900-1905
This is Westmoreland as it is pictured on page 74 along with the creamer in "Westmoreland Glass Volume 3 1888-1940" by Lorraine Kovar. It is Westmoreland's number MJ-17 and was probably sold with mustard in it originally. It has a "double cornucopia shape" and a scalloped rim and base. A band of beads decorates the sides and handle. A cream pitcher was also made in this pattern. Quite a RARE find in blue! The color is a beautiful aqua blue with slight marbling, it still has a shine but is obviously old and feels heavy. CONDITION: Excellent condition for its age with no cracks, repairs or chips. The goofus gold paint is well worn as expected. Less wear on the sides than expected. It is difficult to find this piece, especially in BLUE and in this wonderful condition. Until March 14, 1924 Westmoreland was known as Westmoreland Specialty Company. After that date it became Westmoreland Glass Company.
